The Pete C Garcia Victoria Foundation

“Building Communities Through Neighborhood Action, Academic Scholarships and Involvement”

The Victoria Foundation was founded by Mr. Pete C. Garcia in 2008, as a 501 C 3, non-profit community development foundation, for the purpose of improving conditions in impoverished communities throughout Arizona.

Mr. Garcia held the position of President from 2008 until his passing in 2017. In memory of Mr. Garcia, the Foundation was renamed The Pete C. Garcia Victoria Foundation.

The Foundation continues its work under the presidency of Dr. Loui Olivas, Professor Emeritus, Arizona State University, who served as Treasurer of the Board of Directors since 2009.

Since its establishment in 2008, The Foundation’s commitment has been to promote positive reforms for underprivileged communities in Arizona. Close to 1,600 academic scholarships representing $1.9 M has been issued to Latinx students pursuing college degrees

To undertake this objective, The Foundation established four areas of assistance: Community Development, Education / Scholarships, Arts / Culture, and International Exchange / Faith Based Initiatives.

Funding

During the past ten years, the most requested service has been the Higher Education Scholarship Program; an agenda established within The Foundation’s Education / Scholarship component.

This motivated the board of directors to focus The Foundation’s work on its Higher Education Scholarship Program targeting Latino and other underprivileged minority youth who seek to achieve a college / university degree.

The Pete C. Garcia Victoria Foundation Higher Education Scholarship Program is intended to minimize the primary reason that keeps underprivileged youth from entering college/university systems. The Scholarship Program extends financial support to youth whose educational ambitions are delayed or denied because of their societal and lack of financial resources.

The Higher Education Scholarship Program provides them scholarships that help defray the cost of a college or university education in Arizona.

The primary sources of funds for the scholarship program are The Foundation’s three annual fundraising events: Advocates for Education Award Luncheon, Victoria Golf Tournament, the Arizona Higher Education Award Breakfast; and donor advised funds.
